AFL-CIO Union Veterans Council Is Standing Up & Fighting Back Against TPP Fast Track

Dear CWA Veteran:

As I am sure you all know by now, that CWA has taken the lead to derail Fast Track and stop the Trans-Pacific Partnership. As our returning veterans face a difficult job market, TPP will only make it worse when it allows our jobs to be outsourced to countries like Vietnam. I'm forwarding a copy of the AFL-CIO Union Veterans newsletter. I strongly recommend that you subscribe and more importantly speak out against the horrible trade deal. If you would like to speak out against this trade deal, please reply to the Union Vets email and they will be in touch.

In Unity,

Bill Bates
Vice President

Subject: Veterans saying "No!" to Fast Track/TPP

We must ask ourselves "What does patriotism mean in the 21st century? What is the nature of our democracy, as we recall the sacrifices of so many?"

A bill to “fast track” trade deals, including the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement—the biggest trade deal in the history of the United States referred to as “NAFTA on Steroids”—will be been introduced in Congress any day now.

Are you a Vietnam veteran who is willing to speak out again Fast Track? If, so reply to this email and we’ll be in touch with how you can help.

With an already fragile economy, we do not need America’s veterans competing in a race to the bottom with workers in countries like Vietnam. And we don’t want to support economies where poor working conditions, child labor and wages as low as 25 cents an hour go unchecked. The Vietnamese government that thinks that workers' rights and environmental and safety concerns are not issues. Is this really someone we want to partner with?

It is time to recommit to our values, as we honor those who served and those who work hard every day, whose jobs, living standards and rights are on the line.

If you are a Vietnam veteran who would like to speak out on this issue or a veteran in the workforce who does not want to see their job outsourced to countries like Vietnam, please reply to this email. Make your voice heard!

In solidarity,
J. David Cox, Sr.
Chair, AFL-CIO Veterans Council
President, AFGE
