Beginning in 2008, IBM will stop contributing to its traditional U.S. pension plan and a later retirement plan now held by 117,000 IBM employees. Instead, IBM says it intends to increase the amount it contributes to its workers' 401(k) plans. The changes will save it $2.5 billion to $3 billion between 2006 and 2010, the company said.
