2/19/04- States Rush To Stem Offshore Outsourcing!

In 2002, New Jersey was the first state to introduce "Keep Jobs in America" legislation. The proposal, by Democratic State Senator Shirley Turner came after the state's supplier for electronic food-stamp and welfare benefits moved its call center to India. Turner's bill passed the state Senate unanimously, however lobbying from business, including representatives from the Indian IT industry, quashed the Assembly hearing. Last month, she reintroduced the bill. In her 10 years as a legislator, she said no bill has ever generated as much interest. Download complete article in PDF format.
